At 06.30 am, on 3 October, Police Lieutenant Tongchai Torpimai, Tamenchai, Lumplaimas, Buriram Police Investigator, was informed of the coach accident at km. 12-13 Ban Nongmah, Tamenchai, between Lumplaimas and Buriram. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to investigate and render assistance.

At the scene, rescuers found the 589-14 blue and white Pattaya-Ubonratchathani coach, run by the Srimongkol Tour company, lying on its side in the roadside ditch. The passengers were in the process of smashing the windows, attempting to get out of the vehicle because the emergency exit was jammed.

The Tamenchai rescue team managed to free all the passengers safely from the coach and rushed the two seriously injured passengers to the Buriram Center Hospital. Subsequently, the tour company staff contacted the Ratchasima-Surin coach service to transfer the stranded passengers to their destination.

Police questioned Mr. Meun Sitti, [48] the coach driver, who said the coach had left Pattaya at 9.00 pm, the night before, and it had rained non-stop en route to Ubonratchathani. He said the road was slippery and when he reached the incident area, he lost control of the coach.

However, officials will question the passenger-witnesses further in an attempt to find the real cause of the accident.
