PATTAYA – May 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News];- at 13.00 pm. There had been a conference with the peace preservation and administrative department at Pataya City Hall. Mr.Anupong Putthanawarat- chief of the peace preservation and administrative department- chaired the conference and there were Pattaya’s members and those involved also attended the conference.

At the conference they had discussed how to manage the vendors in Pattaya. Foreigners and Thais have complained to Pattaya’s administrator that the street vendors and peddlers who sell food and beverage on beach had sold it on the footpath and on the road causing traffic congestion and made the road dirty and smelly. Therefore Pataya’s administrators had ordered the committees to find a solution.

Mr.Theerasak Jatupong- director of peace preservation and administrative department-revealed that the amount of municipal officers is insufficient to patrol the whole of Pattaya. Therefore they had patrolled Pattaya beach and they found a lot of vendors selling on beach road. As they had been informed the municipal officers can only catch them and fine them and can’t confiscate their belongings. After they were released they would just return to the same spot and start selling again. There are more and more vendors from up-country who come to sell in Pataya and some are aliens such as Laos and Cambodian.

Initially Mr.Theerasak suggested a complete clamp down on these operators on beach road and they should enforce beach road as a vendor free zone. In addition they need the collaboration from the police to patrol, catch and confiscate them the vendors and their belongings. The aliens who have no work permit will be arrested and the 3 wheeled motorbike which they use will also be confiscated. It’s expected that Pattaya’s image will be better if there are no venders.
