On 10th August 2009, Pol. Lt. Col. Krit Siriprasertchoke, a Chief Inspector from Najomtien and his team arrested a taxi driver, Mr. Saratool (Ton) Detchra-Nhub, (31) at an air-condition repair shop situated in Soi Chaiyapruk 2, Moo. 12 Jomtien, who has a long record of filling up with petrol and driving away without paying. Mr. Ton, was originally from 49/16 Moo. 5, Sumnukkratorn, Banchang, Rayong.

Along with Mr Ton, police took his car, a Honda Civic with two different number plates. The front plate read 9033 and the back plate 9038, Bangkok regisrations. They also took 4 empty, 30 liter blue plastic petrol containers, 5 Yah Bah tablets, a fake gun and an unidentified material which resembled a Dynamite bomb.

While being interviewed by the police, Mr. Ton told them he was a taxi driver, stationed at Kow Pratumnuk. He continued to say, he normally drove into the service station and told the attendant to fill up the vehicle along with the petrol containers, then requesting a receipt, knowing the attendant had to go to the office for it, took the opportunity to drive off without having paid. It was not stated whether Mr. Ton was an illegal or private hire driver. He confessed that he had been stealing petrol in this way on more than thirty occasions in the Chonburi and Rayong areas. His latest scam was two days before, at Borwin, Sriracha area. He usually sold the petrol on to other people or traded it for Yah Bah.

The petrol attendant at the service station in Sattahip, Mr. Supkawee Saetung, (15), said he had heard of Mr. Ton, as he was renowned for his antics at the surrounding service stations and had earned himself the nickname ‘Ton Temtung’, meaning Ton full tank, but did not expect him to visit his station. Mr. Supkawee went on to say that Mr. Ton drove in and asked for the tank to be filled along with the 4 containers, totally 1050 Baht and while he had gone for the receipt, Mr. Ton drove off.

Pol. Lt. Col. Krit said, the police stopped the vehicle and asked to search it, finding the different license plates. The back plate was found to be a fake with the last digit being an 8 instead of the 3 as in the front. When the police checked their records, they found a history of complaints against Mr. Ton

The man is now being held at the Najomtien police station and any one who has had any complaints about him can contact the station during working hours
