Pattaya Sees Snatching Incidents Everyday During Songkran Festival

Gang of snatchers have been targeting tourists every day during this year’s festival. The snatchers have been difficult to catch due to lots of the CCTV cameras in the city being out of order.

PATTAYA – April 17, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12.30 a.m.; Mr. Matsuzaki Seiji, aged 69, Japanese national, took a picture of 3 suspects caught on CCTV that snatched his gold neck lace and 3 Buddha images worth over 100,000 THB to notify Pol Lt Watthana Pradit (Investigation officer of Pattaya city police station, Chonburi Province).

Upon investigating Mr. Matsuzaki Seiji, he said that while he was walking with his Japanese friends from Lotus, North Pattaya to the Peace Resort Hotel, near the Dolphin roundabout. Whilst walking there was a suspect who walked up from behind and snatched his gold necklace, he then ran over to a motorbike were 2 others were waiting and fled the scene in the direction of North Pattaya. But luckily for the tourist some local people came to assist him and inspected the CCTV footage where they found the images of the 3 suspects which he then took to show the police.

The police inspected the pictures from the CCTV footage and found that 3 male suspects were riding a Honda Scoopyi motorbike and a Honda Wave 125 motorbike. Initially, the police had coordinated with the detective police team and had given out the pictures of the 3 culprits to search for them so they can be arrested as soon as possible.

The journalists reported that there had been many arrests due to snatching incidents during Songkran festival in Pattaya city. There were forces of police teams patrolling to suppress these types of crimes during the Songkran festival but there were still reports everyday of snatching incidents and the officers couldn’t use the CCTV cameras because many of them were out of order.
