Pattaya Celebrate Her Majesty’s 78th Year in Harmony

On the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit’s 78th birthday, various Pattaya based activities and ceremonies were organised to celebrate the beloved “mother of Thailand” and her valued contribution to the Kingdom.

Pattaya, the 12th of August 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: During the day a gathering of more than 1000 cyclists participated in a 78km ride from Sattahip’s Queen Sirikit Hospital to Bangsaen along the Sukhumvit Road. Cycling clubs from Chon-Buri, Bangsaen, Sattahip, Sriracha and Pattaya attended the event, held to promote cycling, harmony and peace on the 78th year of Queen Sirikit.

Traditionally celebrated in the evening, official ceremonies for Her Majesty’s birthday were scheduled in Pattaya at the Bali Hai Pier and from the Sattahip Naval Base. Over 5,000 visitors and well-wishers are estimated to have attended both events.

Bali Hai Pier celebrations commenced at approximately 5:30pm from the Royal Garden Plaza in South Pattaya where a procession of people walked in an organised tribute to the Queen. Ending at the pier, the ceremony was chaired by Pattaya Mayor Ithiphol Khunpluem and included various local businesspersons, government officials, administrators and dignitaries , joined in a candle lit ceremony and rendition of the Royal Families tribute song. The ceremonies were concluded with a fireworks display from the pier at 7:29, in conjunction with multiple ceremonies throughout the nation.

At Sattahip Naval Base, approximately 5,000 residents, businesspersons, local government officials and dignitaries gathered in a candle lit ceremony held on the Krom Luang Chumporn Ceremony Yard. Chaired by Vice-Admiral Theerawat Srisathaphorn (Sattahip Naval Base Commander) the audience pledged their support to Her Majesty the Queen, singing traditional songs of praise, the Royal Families tribute song and the Thai National Anthem. The even was once again capped by a 7:29pm fireworks display.
