Chon-Buri, the 24th of February 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Chon-Buri Deputy Governor Mr. Sunthorn Rattanwaraha oversaw emergency response rehearsals at the Chon-Buri Council Hall on Wednesday. The practice was organised between over 100 police officers from the various districts in Chon-Buri along with a further 100 volunteer police and firemen. Following the announcement of two separate demonstrations that will occur on Friday, local governments have decided to be proactive in dealing with any potential disturbances that may arise.

Chon-Buri administrators advised the two rallying parties to remain peaceful and not to bring weapons to the respective demonstrations. A strong police presence will be maintained at the rallies to ensure that demonstrators do not get out of hand, however; the security force has also been warned against using excessive violence to maintain peace.

The two rallies will occur in close proximity to each other, as such local administrators and police have decided it best to employ a large police presence at the event to act as a deterrent for any potential unrest. Protesters often attempt to provoke the opposing party and police want to make sure that Friday’s events do not descend into a battle, as was seen in the Song Kran riots last year.

Protestors have not been discouraged from amassing, however; police have strictly informed that if either of the two parties become violent, officers will disband the demonstrations.
