PATTAYA– October 18, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Ms.Yuwathida Jeerapat-Pattaya spokeman- revealed that tourism during the last 9 months had decreased 20 percent (about 2 million people).

She revealed that the recession had happened because of the world economy and Thai political condition. Plus the main tourists such as Europeans and Russians had changed their holiday destinations. However there were a lot of Chinese and Indian tourists visiting Thailand. The number of Thai tourists had still decreased especially those who held seminars because the government’s policy disallowed any kind of meetings.

Ms.Yuwathida said that the officials initially discussed about promotion and to urge tourism in Pattaya in order to attract tourists during the high season.

Mr.Bunjong Bvantoonprayook-deputy spokesman of Pattaya- said that the reduction in tourism had affected the revenue of gold operators in Pattaya. It’s expected that this was the effect of the conflicts in the Middle East and world recession. Plus the private sector commented that Pattaya should open the Utapao-Pattaya airport as soon as possible in order that tourists can easily travel to Pattaya instead of using Suvannabhumi airport.
