Pattaya Proclaims Walking Street As A Safety Zone

On September 28, an opening ceremony will officially designate Pattaya’s Walking Street as a “Safety Zone” to assure the safety of tourists and residents alike. Improvements will include more surveillance cameras and police patrolling the area.

PATTAYA – September 26 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 6 p.m., an announcement was made to launch the Walking Street Safety Zone Project, involving a cooperative effort by the governor of Chonburi, the Mayor of Pattaya City, and police officers from the Pattaya police station.

Performing at the September 28 opening ceremony will be Scottish bagpipers, the police marching band, and chamber musicians from the welfare division.

Pol. Col. Thammanoon Mankong, director of Muang Pattaya police station, said that tourists from around the world come to travel to Pattaya and visit the Walking Street area. The Safety Zone will ensure their safety, and follows the government’s policy to increase revenue from tourism.

Safety measures include more high quality CCTVs installed on Walking Street, which are linked directly to the command center of Pattaya police station. There also will be more collaboration among the Immigration police, the tourist police, and local government offices, as well as volunteer police, the police commander said.

With more cooperation from entrepreneurs as well, the increased safety will attract more tourists and create more opportunities for businesses to thrive. As a result, there will be more income for the entrepreneurs.
