Traffic Laws to be Enforced Heavily Over Xmas

The Pattaya police force have advised the media that they will be ramping up their traffic control operations over this year’s festive season. Double the amount of police volunteers have been hired to control the situation, with the intent on lowering the amount of accidents and crimes that happen over the notoriously busy period.

Pattaya, the 23rd of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: Police Lieautenant Watcharachai Muay Mun (Deputy Inspector with the Traffic Police) announced that the Pattaya police force have doubled their volunteer force for this year’s festive season, in order to cut down on the amount of accidents that generally occur over the period. Consequently the Pattaya police will aim to cut the crime rate over the high season, which often increases as a result of the influx in tourism.

With a massive increase in tourist activity predicted here over the New Year period the police aim to ramp up their efforts in the maintaining traffic laws and regulations. Officers will be targeting people with no helmets, incorrect or no papers, no insurance, no license plates and illegally modified vehicles. The control of drink driving will be targeted heavily this high season, in order to reduce the numerous alcohol related accidents that occur every year at this time.

In addition to the increase in personnel, the Chon-Buri Transportation Department have requested that the Pattaya Police retain all information in regards to illegal vehicles that are apprehended, so that the cases can be followed up at a later date.
