Pattaya, the 18th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 4:00pm on Friday, Lieutenant Colonel Thrathep Tuphanit (Pattaya Police Deputy Superintendent) along with Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin (Pattaya Police Deputy Superintendent) supervised a practice armed-robbery simulation. The exercise was staged at a jewellery store in South Pattaya.

Members from several Pattaya Police divisions were present at the operation, including; Pattaya police, traffic division, undercover detectives, commando unit and volunteer police.

Operational procedures practiced in the training exercise included; adequate and efficient response methods, inter-divisional communication techniques, police pursuit procedures, armed suspect training, hostage negotiation strategies and commando operational procedures.

The basic overview of the operation was a two suspect armed robbery, followed by police report/pursuit proceedings and a hostage negotiation situation finished off with a commando unit intervention practice session.

The purpose of Friday’s practice operations was to prepare the Pattaya Police Divisions for incidents of this nature and to show the adequacy of the local law enforcement in dealing with possible scenarios that may occur during tourist high-season. This most recent operation follows the recent training of staged prisoner abduction at the Pattaya Remand Prison.

Both Deputy Superintendent declared the operation a complete success, voicing their support for further training operations of this nature in the future.
