Pattaya Police Block Off Bali Hai Pier For Crime Cleaning Up

On August 3rd, 2008, at 00.20, Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent and Mr. Itthipol Khun-pluem, Pattaya Mayor, had mobilized police force, led by Pol.Lt.Col.Chartchai Ruen-thawin, investigation deputy superintendent, Pol.Maj.Chalermsak Thienthongsri, investigation officer and Pattaya police including volunteer police both in uniform and private more than 100 people, to blockade the beach road around Bali Hai pier, South Pattaya. The operation was to arrest teen gangs, both boys and girls, who were annoying the tourists and committing the crime during the weekend due to the recent complaints that many of them were drinking alcohol, bringing guns and hiding drugs in cars and motorbikes. Besides, there was loud noise from music and modified engine that annoyed the people.

Police officers had encircled the area and found teen gangs of more than 200 people were drinking alcohol and playing loud music from he cars. Police had checked for illegal things on those teen’s bodies and their driving licenses before taking the suspicious ones to be checked for drugs consuming.

The operation took more than 2 hours and police managed to arrest more than 20 people who consumed Yah Bah. There were about 30 modified cars and motorbikes without license. Police detained Mr.Nathawut Munkong (24) from Rayong with a pen-gun and a bullet of .22 mm, hidden in a bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck, license 4098, Rayoung. Mr. Polawat In-tae (17), from Chonburi, with a .38mm gun and 6 bullets and Mr.Prawit Thipluk (24) from Chonburi with the evidence of a pack of Yah Ice and Mr. Thawatchai Suksakol (25) from Chonburi with 5 tablets of Yah Bah.

Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent, revealed that, lately the complaints were notified to Pattaya police and Mr. Itthipol Khun-pluem, Pattaya Mayor, that there were teen gangs coming for drinking and playing loud music and getting into fighting at around Bali Hai pier during the weekend, and had been annoying to the people. Therefore, Pattaya police and Pattaya city had mobilized the police force and volunteer police to block off the area for investigation and police had managed to arrest many wrongdoers. However, the checking would be performed continuously in order to create the good image of Pattaya city to make it to be the safe place for both Thai and foreign tourists. Pol.Col.Nopadol said.
