The woman, Mrs. Mullika Bpha-jueng (26), was subsequently arrested a house in Moo Baan Fah-Mi-Ard-Gan, Nongprue and then presented to the press on May 9,at 1pm. At the press conference, Pol.Col Sarayut Sa-gnuen-bpo-kai, Banglamung Superintendent, Pol.Lt.Col. Somchai Yos-sombat, Deputy Superintendent and Pol.Maj. Nit Withinanthakit, Investigator, made a joint statement to the effect that Mrs. Mullika had been charged with the murder of 8-year-old Surisri Thawasaentaken. Police also declared that Mrs. Mullika had an outstanding arrest warrant out in her name for stealing a 90-gram gold necklace. Mrs. Mullika confessed to both charges.

Mrs. Mullika had previously informed police that she had been riding around on a motorbike with Mr. Num, her boyfriend, on May 5. She said she had seen young Surisri wandering around with a mobile phone in a playground near the village. Being a neighbour of the girl and hence known to her, she had offered to take Surisri for a joy ride, promising to drop her off in the same place, later.

Mrs. Mullika then dropped off Mr.Num at home and returned to pick up the young girl for a ride. They then rode around until the petrol was nearly empty. She then suggested that Surisri sell her mobile phone at 108 TP Telecom shop at Tukcom, IT Shopping Centre on South Pattaya Road. Mrs. Mullika managed to sell the mobile phone for Bt500 to pay for petrol and to buy Yah Bah; her real motivation. Then, alarmed that Surisri’s mother would blame her for selling the mobile phone, she decided to take Surisri to play in the pond behind the flour house “Rong Paeng”, and subsequently drowned her.

After that she attempted to lay low at her cousin’s house, where she was subsequently arrested. After the press conference, police officers took Mrs. Mullika to the pond where she had committed the crime to re-enact the scenario of the crime. Assembled at the crime scene, were a resentful crowd, among whom were relatives of the young girl who tried to attack Mrs. Mullika. However, police successfully extricated the accused from the clutches of the crowd before she was harmed, whisking her back to Banglamung Police Station. Police charged Mrs. Mullika with deliberate murder in order to rob.
