Pattaya International Balloon 2008

4.30 pm on November 27th 2008 saw the kick off of the Pattaya International Balloon Fiesta 2008 at the Plaza opposite to Thammasat University Pattaya Center, Pong Sub-district, Banglamung District, Chonburi.

Officiating at the opening ceremony were Mr. Ittipol Khunplome, Mayor of Pattaya City, Police Colonel Umrung Chitpakdee, Mayor of the Flying Association (Thailand), members of Pattaya City, participants from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Department of Air Transportation, Singha Corporation Co. Ltd. and Thammasat University Pattaya Center.

The objectives of the Pattaya International Balloon Fiesta 2008 are mainly aimed at disseminating and boosting civil and sport aviation activities. As the proprietors of the event, the Flying Association (Thailand) provided visitors with lots of fun with several types of aviation sport including international balloon flying with participants from Europe, Asia, the USA and Thailand. Fantastic displays of airdrop, sky kite, wingover as well as a balloon show with light and sound after dark were included in the event. There was also a global warming campaign under the concept of “Let’s Save Our Earth”.

This year, there were 32 balloons and more than 200 balloonists joining the Fiesta which which was aimed at both Thai and foreign tourists visiting Pattaya. More than 200,000 visitors were expected to attend the event.

At the opening ceremony session, there was a kite flying show in various styles. But unfortunately because of strong winds the balloonists decided not to fly their balloons for safety reasons. However, the event was still impressive and enjoyed by the thousands of visitors.
