Police duly arrived at Siam Commercial bank, Naklua branch, to meet Mr.Weerapol Choncheewasaranon, the bank manager and Mr. Im Sukhum, (70), the victim. Mr. Im told police that he is a real estate agent from Rayong province. Recently, apparently, 3 middle-aged men had visited him at his residence to discuss buying a piece of land in Rayong. During the conversation, the three then tried to persuade him to invest money in gambling business, which needed a high capital investment so as to reap a high return. He initially believed them and agreed to accompany them to a Rayong bank to withdraw his money, but they unaccountably diverted to Pattaya, instead.

Arriving at a shop house with an office on the ground floor, two of the suspects went inside, while the other took him to the Naklua branch of Siam Commercial Bank. At the bank, the suspect prevailed upon Mr Im to withdraw Bt120,000 Baht, but he intuited something was amiss and declined; at hich point they began arguing. The bank manager, noticing the two men in hot dispute, came over to investigate, only to be told by Mr Im that all was well. The suspect, however, realised his game was up and beat a hasty retreat.

Mr. Weerapol, his suspicions aroused, notified Banglamung police. Investigating the incident, the officer conveniently found that the bank’s CCTV camera had recorded Mr. Im entering the bank at 12.05 pm, in the company of a man of between 45 – 50 years of age, wearing a blue shirt and jeans, who had left in a hurry at 12.10 pm. Police will search for the man in the recording to question him about the alleged scam.
