Pattaya, November 9, 2010, [Pattaya Daily News]: Two members of a complex yah-bah (methamphetamine) trafficking ring, organised from inside Chonburi prison, with a significant network spanning the Pattaya region, were apprehended in a police swoop at one of the network distribution points yesterday, Nov8, at 6.30pm.

The police team, led by Pol.Lt.Col. Nunthawut Suwanla-ong, Pattaya Police Superintendent, were apparently alerted by a tip off that there was to be a collection of a significant quantity of drugs at a drop off point near a public phone box, beside the fourth electricity pylon in front of Chaweewan Inter Ltd., Sriracha. Police accordingly set out to lie in wait to catch the collectors red-handed in the process of picking up the drugs for distribution.

When the two collectors, Messrs. Phuwanat Phakdee [47] from Sriracha and Mr. Prakobchai Fuengma [37] from Takhiantia, arrived at the drop off point, they got out of their car and proceeded to where the drugs were hidden. The police then apprehended the pair with a haul of 4,000 yah-bah tablets.

The pair were taken into custody and later confessed that they were members of a yah-bah trafficking ring headed by Chonburi prisoner P. Pung. They said they normally phoned in their yah-bah order to P. Pung who would then arrange for the drugs to be hidden at the prearranged drop off point and would later phone the pair to tell them when and where to collect them. They said they had never seen the delivery men; all they did was to deposit the payment, in this case Bt205,000, in a prearranged network bank account. Following this they said they would distribute the drugs to various dealers in the Pattaya- Chonburi area.

The suspects were charged with possession of a Class 1 drug with intent to sell. Further investigation is continuing to discover the other gang members and bring them to justice.
