PATTAYA – April 24, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12:20 p.m., arrests were made of a group of teenagers who set up a gang to steal motorbikes and snatch and run away with tourists’ properties in the area of Pattaya. Announcing the arrests were Pol. Capt. Vitsanu Chaisuwan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province, with the police team.

The 7 defendants, 5 male and 2 female, were identified as: Mr. Bas (alias), age 17 (the head of the gang); Mr. Nut (alias), age 17; Mr. Net (alias), age 16; Mr. Aek (alias), age 15; and boy Korn (alias), age 13. The 2 female teenagers were Ms. Bell (alias), age 15; and Ms. Bew (alias), age 16.

The police had arrested all the defendants at a checkpoint at Roongland village, south Pattaya. Officers seized 3 motorbikes that the teens stole from the area of Pattaya and Banglamung, and 4 pills of amphetamines, then restrained them to investigate and prosecute at Pattaya police station.

From investigating, police discovered that Mr. Bas (alias) who is the head of the gang, would take his subordinates in the gang, who didn’t study and didn’t obey their parents, to wander to make trouble by stealing motorbikes of other people in the area of Pattaya and Banglamung.

They had stolen almost 10 motorbikes, then used the stolen motorbikes to wander to snatch and run away with the tourists’ properties. Their victims included both Thai and foreign tourists.

The lawless teens then used the money to go travelling and bought amphetamines to consume, and to pay for the daily rental room in Soi Chaiphul, central Pattaya, to stay together.

They sold some stolen motorbikes to their friends, and when some motorbikes were seized and arrested, then they would wander to steal motorbikes again.

Further investigation by police revealed that Mr. Bas (alias) and Mr. Aek (alias) were previously arrested on April 11 for stealing a motorbike. But both of them ran away to escape while they were being detained by the investigation officer of Dongtarn curve sub branch police station.

During questioning after this arrest, both of them told police that after they had escaped, they set up a gang to steal motorbikes and snatch and run away with tourists’ properties, until all of the gang was arrested.

The police then informed the victims whose property was snatched by the suspects. The latest was a Russian woman, who was victimized while driving a motorbike in Jomtien in the afternoon, on the same day the teen gang was arrested.

During the theft attempt, the Russian victim’s motorbike fell down and she got injured. After being notified by police, she came to see the defendants. She could remember them, and pointed them out to confirm them as the criminals.

However, the police will investigate further whether this gang of teenagers made trouble by stealing motorbikes from anywhere else, and how many times that they snatched and ran away with the victims’ properties, in order to inform more victims to come to identify them, before sending all of them to the investigation officer to prosecute according to the law.
