Pattaya City Arranges Candle Procession Prior to Buddhist Lent Day

Education Office of Pattaya City had called all the related organizations to discuss the up and coming candle procession ceremony. The procession is to be held before the official day to avoid any major traffic congestion.

PATTAYA – July 7, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.30 p.m., Mrs Jintana Maensurin (Director of the Education Office of Pattaya City) chaired the meeting about arranging the candle ceremony procession in Pattaya city 2014 together with the related organizations in room 251, Pattaya City Hall.

 

The Buddhist Lent Day tradition this year is on Saturday 12th July, 2014 which is a weekend therefore Monday 14th July, 2014 will be a substitution day making this weekend a 4 day weekend. The Education Office of Pattaya City has arranged a candle procession ceremony 2 days before the Buddhist Lent Day because they are concerned about traffic problems along beach road which the candle ceremony will walk along.

Mrs. Jintana Maensurin (Director of Education Office of Pattaya City) revealed that on July 9, 2014 Pattaya 1 road will be closed in order to arrange the activities for the candle procession such as many carved candles, and shows from students of schools in Pattaya city.

 

On July 9, 2014, at Pattaya 1 road, the candle procession ceremony will start from 1.00 p.m. onwards and the road will be closed from then onwards and the procession will start at the Dolphin roundabout and head towards central Pattaya T-junction which will only have one lane open until 3pm. Then after that the road from central Pattaya T-junction to Walking Street will be closed completely until the procession has finished. So the police have advised road users to use alternative routes to avoid any inconveniences. On July 10, 2014 there will be a ceremony of offering candles at the Boonkanjanaram temple from 9.00 a.m. onwards.
