PATTAYA – October 9, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr.Sinchai Watthanasartsathorn (Chairman of Pattaya Business and Tourism Association, Chonburi Province (P.B.T.A.), talked about the deck chair operators on Pattaya and Jomtien beaches. A committee has been appointed by the Chonburi Provincial Governor not only to reregulate all business operators on beaches but also to emphasize on regaining beach areas for the benefit of tourists that come to relax there.

Mr. Sinchai said that his personal opinion he thought the policy 1 person 1 space per 1 beach is appropriate. However, the business sectors disagree because some of the beach operators are local residents that have been working on the beaches for a very long time but do agree with regaining some areas for the benefit of the public.

Mr. Sinchai said that according to the reregulation plan there will be an arrangement to reduce the area used by deck chair operators to be 1 person for 1 space and to eliminate the problems of selling and buying public land and illegally sublease the beach areas. The government sector is trying to solve the decreasing amount of tourists which have been decreasing at an alarming rate during the last year or so which this part of the policy is at least a step in the right direction.
