Pattaya Beach Marathon Meeting

Pattaya City Hall “Thappraya Room” was filled to capacity for an unusually large meeting to discuss the future development of the whole Pattaya Bay beachfront area. An issue such as this is certain to bring officials, business people and the public out in force, as this is always a hot topic for debate.

Pattaya 21st January 2011, PDN: – Pattaya’s local government plus the whole community are keen to see the entire Pattaya Bay area see re-organization and further development in a correct and proper manner. Redevelopment of any large city area is a huge undertaking, and to this end, Pattaya City is looking for sponsors both large and small. However, the effort to improve several kilometers of Pattaya’s beachfront should not just fall on a few organizations, because it is up to everyone to become involved.

General cleanliness starts with everyone keeping this vast beachfront area tidy and free of rubbish, and the old saying is that “If you bring disposable items to the beach, then you can also take them away again.” Likewise, both local people and visitors alike should remember that everything tipped own our drains ends up in Pattaya Bay. This will just create a huge sea of pollution if it goes unchecked, so it is easier to keep our beaches clean in the first place, rather than be faced with an expensive big clean-up job later.

Zoning, advance planning and many other issues will help to improve our Pattaya Bay beaches, and the issue of too many deck chair operators on the foreshore always comes up. Even on New Year’s Day the chairs were not 100% occupied, so it appears that a reduction is in order, and the fairest way to do this would be to reduce the chairs of each operator by a percentage.

The sixteen pedestrian crossings along Beach Road are proving effective, but this is being offset by the actions of tour guides who still hold up all the traffic at other random points, instead of using the nearby crossings; – (Oh well, old happen die hard). Visitors to Pattaya’s Beachfront areas also get a little annoyed by the blockage of footpaths and walkways by a great variety of small vendors, plus various rental groups seated permanently and making the walkways their permanent office facilities. Walking vendors seem to be a fact of life on Pattaya’s beaches and visitors learn to accept them as part of the furniture, but do object to these people continually trying to sell to them if they are trying to have a quiet drink or fine meal on an outdoor terrace with friends.

Well there is definitely room for improvement in many areas, and many of these issues were discussed, so this long running meeting ran on until 3.00 pm in the afternoon. There is no doubt that meetings such as these will go a long way to improving the greater Pattaya Bay area, but it is up to everyone to “lend a hand” and do their bit in improving the image of our city.
