Pattaya All Set For The 2014 Marathon

The mayor of Pattaya revealed that the Pattaya Marathon 2014 will focus its priority on the safety of the runners. It’s expected that there will be over 10,000 runners and it will generate around 50 million baht.

PATTAYA – July 9, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News];- at 18.00 am at SunKen court, Central Festival Pattaya Beach Mr Ittipol Khunpleum-mayor of Pattaya- was accompanied with Pro.Narong Tienmek-representative from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation-, Ms.Ornrasa Arwutkhom-director of Pattaya TAT- and 3 more supporters made a statement about “Pattaya Marathon 2014”.

 

Pattaya committee had developed and promoted the marathon to be a world class tournament. The officers had observed marathons in Tokyo , Bangkok and Khon Kaen to improve the Pattaya marathon. Also they will concentrate on the runner’s safety and made the route more runner friendly.

Mr Ittipol revealed that the Pattaya Marathon is an event that can promote tourism in Pattaya and there are thousands of competitors each year. TAT and Chonburi sport association had supported the tournament under the Asia athletics standard, plus the security and safety of the runners was a big priority. The police and civil defence volunteers will look after the runner’s safety during the marathon. There is expected to be around 5,000 Thai and foreign competitors. There will also be many different distances for all levels of fitness such as the full marathon, half-marathon, quarter marathon, micro marathon and a wheel chair marathon. They had also divided the competitors into age groups for male and female categories and also a race for people who are in wheel chairs. The different categories will give the competitors more chance of getting their hands on the 2.3 million baht prize fund. It’s expected to generate 50 million baht in revenue for Pattaya.

 

In addition there will be the special prize for the runner who will be able to break the male marathon record set in 2007 which is 2.19.35 and female marathon record in which is 2.42.41. The runner will receive 50,000 baht for breaking each record. Plus the runner who will be able to break the Thailand marathon record set in 1998 for a male of 2.12.32 and for female of 2.21.41 will each receive 100,000 baht each.
