Pattaya, 3 November 2010: The Khrua Thai Food & Drink Pub & Restaurant, Pattaya 3rd Road, was raided at 9.30am on 2 November and a search for under-age drinkers conducted. Police had been notified that the venue was operating outside the regulation opening hours.

The 2-storey wood and cement building operates as a restaurant and a pub, the walls being curtain-clad, with dance music being played by a DJ. On the 2nd Floor, a number of Thais and foreigners were dancing under dim lighting when the police entered and demanded that the music be turned off and the lights turned up, before checking ID cards and arranging for the testing of the partygoers’ urine for drugs.

It transpired that three males and three females were under 20-years-old, three staff members were under 18, and one foreigner and three staff members tested positive for drugs. Mr. Surasit Semathong [24], the manager, was taken into custody for contravening the opening hours’ regulations and permitting under-age customers to use the pub.

Mr. Phongsit Pijanun, the Banglamung Suppression Administrative Assistant who had led the raid, informed press that a complaint had been received from local residents that the pub was opening after hours and allowing teenagers access. Further investigation revealed that the venue had no business operating licence and the matter was subsequently referred to the provincial administration to decide how long the premises would be closed for.
