Pattaya – 16 Country Members Arrive at U-Tapao Airport

On the morning of the 10th April 2009 the U-tapao airport was crowded with top ranking officials who had gathered to to welcome the international dignitaries attending the ASEAN summit.

Among those present were Vice Admiral Chaiwat Pookarat, he described the sea security preparations. The plan was based on flexibility and utilised a number of vessels including 3 warships, 2 helicopters, and several smaller vessels. There was also a small flotilla of speed boats available to help evacuate the summit members and their teams from Pattaya should an emergency arise.

The first to arrive at the airport at 6:00 am (by PG 9100) was the Cambodian leader, Hunsen, who had an extra meeting with the Thai prime Minister.

The Vietnamese and Myanmar leaders arrived by VN 8587 at 11.45 am (by VN 8687) and 12:50 am (by MA 001) respectively.

Afternoon arrivals included Singapore (2:00 pm), Korea (2:40 pm), Laos (4:00 pm), Malaysia (4:00 pm) and Brunei (4:45 pm)

The Philipines were scheduled to arrive at 5.30 pm, the Indian delegation at 6:15 pm, and the Chinese at 7:10 pm.

The last to arrive on Friday are the Japanese who are expected on 2 flights at 11.20 pm and 11.50 pm.
