Pattaya’s Traffic Problems Put Under Spotlight

A round-table discussion over Pattaya‘s traffic problems had been debated out.

      The debate concerning the management of traffic problems along Beach Road, originating from the Dolphin Roundabout and along Second Road in the City of Pattaya, was the main topic of the day’s discussion.

       The venue, attracted interests from hords of road users and local business operators, was attended by City Mayor Pirat Wattanasartsathorn, together with government officials from various departments concerned, took place on the 20th July 2006, at Pattaya City Hall.       

    During the seminar, many reports regarding traffic problems faced by road users and many solutions offered were brought into discussion. The debate cited the need for Pattaya to come up with sound solutions to deal with the traffic problems in the mentioned areas, as these were the main thoroughfare of the city.     Essentially the main problems to Pattaya’s traffic stemmed from three major issues: serious traffic jams, a lack of safety for road users and defective traffic lighting systems. The main problem areas originated from the Dolphin Roundabout as road users were not properly trained to use it properly, causing serious hold-ups at best and road accidents at worst.

    Additionally due to limited parking spaces being available many car rental companies had made use of such space to park up their vehicles, hence obstructing the free-flow of traffic. The other traffic problem stemmed from that of tuk tuk operators picking up and dropping off passengers with no regards to other road users also posed another problem of many hold-ups.

    The City had acknowledged the report’s findings presented to them during the seminar, and would endeavor to find solutions to the problems that would alleviate the traffic problems.
