Pattaya, the 14th of January 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Instead of the horrific decline of over inflated real estate prices in most of the western countries, Thailand’s tight fiscal policies have resulted in either simply a flattening of the property market or slight reductions by cash strapped developers, rather than massive devaluations.

Recovery is on the way for the Kingdom’s real estate market, but this will also have to be underpinned by a stable political environment and sensible monetary policies that give overseas investors the confidence for the safety of their long term investments

One point of interest was the recent discussions on 5-year Citizenship Permits that are available for foreign nationals, who have resided in Thailand for a number of years. Requirements are quite complex and the final examinations process is strict, so the general feeling of some members was that this was not worth the effort required.

Other matters at this first 2010 REBA-ES meeting related to upgrading their existing website and the upcoming Real Estate Certification Examinations in Bangkok, (which are only available for Thai citizens). After the meeting members & guests retired next door to the new Dicey Reilly’s Irish pub to chat, enjoy a few drinks or sample the fine food.

This meeting saw a record attendance and the next REBA-ES meeting is set down for Wednesday 10th February at 5.30 pm in the “Chabba Room” (downstairs at the front) of The Marriott Hotel on South Pattaya’s Second Road.
