Pattaya’s Crocodile Egg Eating Contest 2010

Pattaya Crocodile Farm held the 8th Crocodile Egg Eating Contest on Saturday. The popular annual event was organised to strengthen tourism in the region whilst providing a traditional Thai exhibition.

Pattaya, the 1st of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: In front of the Pattaya Crocodile Farm, Mr. Somkiet Jarernsawan (Region2 Chief Judge) along with police Colonel Somnuk Janket (Banglamung Police Superintendent), Mr. Suan Phanomwatthanakun (Chon Buri Council of Cultural Affairs Chairman), Dr. Yodthong Senanun (a famous Muay Thai master) and many tourists both Thais and Foreigners joined in the festivities.

Whilst the highlight of the day was the crocodile egg eating contest, a variety of country music bands and activities were organised at the park to support the main event. In the contest, 29 competitors took part in attempting to eat 10 crocodile eggs in the shortest amount of time. Bonus points were given or taken away depending on the contestant’s cleanliness.

Mr. Phayab Pansaengthong [39] from Chon Buri was fastest and tidiest eater, finishing his share of the eggs in 4:24 minutes. He also was the second in competition last year, winning 10,000 baht with certificate. Second place went to Mr. Preedee Singhajan [37] 5:01 minutes, winning 5,000 baht. In 3rd was Mr. Udom Butgnam [44] with 4.37 minutes that faster than the 2nd winner but he was lower in tidiness leading him to receive the 3,000 baht 3rd prize.

The Cultural Affairs Chairman Mr. Phanomwatthanakun stated that the event was a much needed boast to the flailing tourism industry, mentioning that it was very pleasing to have been able to bring tourists to the popular Crocodile Farm to witness a traditional Thai event.
