According to Mr. Yuthana, 18 scheduled passenger train services from Lang Suan station to Bangkok out of the overall 64 were expected to resume Saturday.

The SRT chief said he believed that by Sunday the remaining 46 passenger services would be in operation and by Monday all six cargo train services would be rolling again. The national railway had earlier expected to resume southbound train services on Friday but then delayed them, claiming that more time was needed for security inspections, especially on rail lines in rural areas. The resumed train services came after state railways executives had negotiated with leaders of the SRT labour union and they agreed to return to work.

Most State Railway of Thailand services had been suspended since September 1 as a result of the national railway workers labour union taking sympathetic leave to show their support for the anti-government protest being led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) in Bangkok. (TNA)
