On-Line Games Shop Over Legal Time Limit With Players Under 18

Pattaya Police raided an on-line games shop in Soi 17, on August 4, 2008, that had been open all night, contravening the legal time limit. Officials found youngsters under 18 packed solid in the shop and 4 of them tested positive for drug consumption.

Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya Superintendent, was notified on August 4, at 02.30 AM, that the “Fast Internet” on-line games shop, located at 20/406, Soi 17, Pattaya 3rd Road, was open over the legal time limit and there were many youngsters playing Internet games in the shop. Pol.Col.Nopadol commanded Pol.Lt.Col.Pasakorn Pai-jit, to lead the police team to arrest those responsible.

At the 4-storey shop house games shop which had its shutter pulled down virtually fully closed, police found 9 youngsters frantically playing on-line games. Police commanded them to stop and checked the license made out to Mr. Piyapol Timpitak. Police also checked for drug consumption and detained 4 youngsters who had tested positive. For those youngsters who were under 18, police gave them guidance before calling their guardians to pick them up. Police arrested Mr.Traipop Boonpasong (37), the owner of the shop, being charged with opening an on-line games shop over the legal time limit and allowing youngsters under 18 to play in the shop.

Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya Superintendent, declared that after a news bulletin about a copy-cat killing of a taxi driver by a high school student who admitted being influenced by the on-line game Grand Theft Auto and using the same method of killing, the commander ordered police to be strict and arrest those Internet and on-line games shops owners in the area, which had opened over the legal time limit and allowed under-age youngsters to play. In addition, Pol.Col.Nopadol said there were a number of complaints that many youngsters had been playing games all night, who police later managed to arrest. Therefore, in future, police will be checking all on-line games shops strictly for infractions as regards licences and illegal opening.
