Officials Practice Ebola Prevention At U-Tapao Airport

Officials have practiced a simulated outbreak of Ebola at U-Tapao. The simulation was done so that if in the future an outbreak happens for real the staff at the airport and neighbouring hospitals will know how to cope.

RAYONG – November 25,2014 [Pattaya Daily News] at U-Tapao airport RADM.Wasinsan Chanthawarin-director- chaired the opening ceremony of the “healthy practice in order to prevent Ebola”. Department of public health officials and immigration officers attended the practice. Dr.Wichan Pawan was the professor who talked about Ebola.

The simulation was of a flight which contained 150 passengers and 5 crew departing from Robot airport in SAGA which was the country that the WHO announced had Ebola. On the flight were 3 passengers who were infected and their temperatures were 38.0 c – 39.5 c. So the crew reported the pilot in order to notify the air traffic control. Plus the ground officers prepared to convey the passengers to the hospital.

 

RADM.Wasinsan said that Ebola is a very dangerous virus that was first found in west Africa and there is no vaccine at present. Also the minister of public health announced that there were 3 countries and 1 city were high risk areas which consisted of Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Lagos.

The Royal Thai Navy and department of public health are aware of the dangers so the officials practiced the outbreak simulation at U-Tapao airport so that if it does happen in the future the officials will know how to cope. Plus the officials aimed to reduce complications during a real situation so that passengers who travel through the airport can be sure that there is a high standard of prevention.
