Office of The Prime Minister Surveys Economic Progress in The Eastern Provinces

On April 4, 2008, Mr. Chusak Sirinil, from the Ministry of the Prime Minister's Office, visited the Laem Chabang Seaport area to conduct a survey on economic progress, and assess the significant problems facing Chonburi, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trad provinces.

Later, Mr. Chusak and the four mayors of the Eastern provinces concerned met to discuss the problems that each province is facing, mostly regarding the environment, drought and drugs. Proposals regarding actional policies was put forward and the Office of the Prime Minister will collaborate with the provincial authorities and provide a budget to solve the problems, including improving the rules and regulations to enhance economic development.

Laem Chabang Seaport, the interface between the Eastern provinces and the world, has a history of significant continuous development and is aiming to further this in the future. It is essential for the national economy to develop a comprehensive shipping system, with infrastructural support. Therefore, priority has to be given to the problems that each province is facing.

In Chonburi province, there were reports of drug problems, trespass in public places, transportation and traffic problems which urgently need resolution. There will be cooperation between the authorities in order to solve these problems as soon as possible, overseen by Office of the Prime Minister.
