Pattaya has one of the worst records for road accidents in Thailand, with many people dying annually. The toll is blamed on unsafe vehicles, disregard for traffic rules and inadequate emergency services.

Common Causes Of Truck Accidents

The reason why truck accidents are such a concern is that drivers are there to make deliveries, and most deliveries have tight deadlines. If you work in an office and you are at risk of missing a deadline you work faster. If you drive a truck and are in danger of missing a deadline, you drive faster – and this all too often leads to an accident.
Truck accidents have caused many injuries including back, neck, spinal cord and even brain injuries. And, of course, truck accidents have been responsible for many deaths over the years; deaths of both the drivers and the people in other vehicles that may have been involved in the accident.

1) Truck Accidents Caused By The Truck Driver: Many truck accidents are caused because of a fault on the part of the truck driver. The following actions constitute truck driver errors that result in truck accidents:
1. Driving the truck without having the necessary qualifications and the required training.
2. Driving over the allowed speed limits in order to meet tight schedules and deadlines.
3. Drinking alcohol or taking other drugs that can impair the truck driver’s physical and mental abilities, thus causing truck accidents.
4. Driving for continuous hours on end without taking a break and getting enough rest. Truck driver fatigue is the leading type of truck driver error that causes truck accidents. Many truck drivers fall asleep at the wheel, or lose focus while driving, as they do not get enough sleep and rest, which ultimately results in truck accidents.
5. Not securing heavy loads properly on the truck.
6. Loading the trucks to more than the maximum capacity.
7. Driving tankers that have liquid loads of less than three quarters the maximum capacity. This causes the liquid load to slosh and move the weight about, thus making the driver lose control of the truck and end up in an accident.

2) Error of Passenger Vehicle Drivers: The majority of the truck accidents are caused because of an error on the part of the driver of other smaller vehicles involved in the accidents. Such errors include:

1. Driving in the blind spots and no-zones of the truck. Due to the big size and length of trucks, there are certain areas beside and behind a truck that are not visible to the truck driver. Driving your car in such zones often causes truck accidents, as the trucker does not even know that the other car is there.

2. Cutting lanes right in front of the truck.

3. Not keeping enough distance from the back of the truck.

4. Trying to overtake the truck from the wrong side.

5. Leaving a stalled car in the middle of a traffic lane and not moving it to the shoulder of the road.

6. Drinking and driving.

These are just a handful of the more common reasons for a truck accident. Of course, a truck accident can be caused in the same way as many car accidents – through reckless driving, speeding, and mechanical faults. Another hazard of truck accidents is in the cargo. Even if the truck accident does not involve another vehicle, a chemical or toxic spill can endanger others’ lives.

I said, “ What’s the good news?”
She said, “ The airbag works.”
