SATTAHIP – September 11, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 4 p.m., a report of a police officer being shot was received by Pol. Lt. Capt. Saijai Kamjulla, detective officer of Plutaluang police station, Plutaluang, Sattahip, Chonburi.

The critically-injured officer died while undergoing surgery to remove the bullets at the Emergency Room of Queen Sirikit hospital, medical department of the Royal Thai navy.

At the hospital, the police captain found other police officers and the dead officer’s relatives and wife weeping in front of the E.R.

The slain officer was identified as Pol. Sen. Serg. Maj. Wiwat Wiangsai, the squad leader of the Prevention and Suppression Division of Ban Chang Police station. He was still dressed in the sportswear he was wearing when he rushed from his house to help with the robbery.

Mr. Wiwat was shot twice in his left arm, and once in the middle of his chest. The third bullet had pierced his heart and severed the heart’s stem, causing the fatal injury.

Pol. Lt. Capt. Saijai Kamjulla said that the remaining bullets would be extricated from the body before its release. Mr. Wiwat’s body will then be taken to perform the ritual at his hometown in Rayong.

Mr. Wiwat’s wife, Mrs. Tippawan Siangwilai, age 29, is four months pregnant. She described to police the last time she saw her husband alive. Before the incident, her husband had finished his work shift, then came back home. Their residence was near the old police station in the market. In the afternoon, the couple went shopping at the market and then returned home to rest.

She said her husband was sleeping beside her, when his police radio woke them by reporting a robbery at a nearby gold shop. Her husband snatched his gun and ran out of the house.

Then Mrs. Tippawan heard three gunshots, and thought her husband had fired them. But they turned out to be fired from the unknown robber, who shot and killed her husband. When she reached her fallen husband, she rushed to send him to the hospital. But sadly, he died later in the hospital.

Mr. Wiwat had a distinguished career as a police officer. He had graduated from the Police Academy Khanoi, generation 23. His last position was the squad leader of the Prevention and Suppression Division of Ban Chang police station before he was shot by the criminal.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Preecha Charernsahayanon, the commander of Rayong police station, issued a command for the department to track down and fully prosecute the shooting suspect because he killed a policeman. The bond among Royal Thai Police officers is like being in the same family, the commander said.

Before the shooting, Mr. Wiwat was due for a promotion to increase his police rank, the commander said. His family will receive the promotion bonus, as the right thing to do.
