Ocean Marina Yacht Club, exclusive yacht club, 5-star hotel and world-class marina facilities, the first of its kind in Thailand, announces its readiness in providing complete marina services to support Sailing Competitions. Aims to help stimulate the trend of Sailing as a sport amongst a wide community and establish the venue as the Yachting hub of Thailand. They plan to proactively organize international sailing competitions, youth and adult level, for both Thai and international sailors. Commencing with international sailing events of the year, such as Ocean Marina Optimist Championship, Platu Coronation Thailand Championship, Top of the Gulf International Regatta etc.

Ms. Nusara (Assakul) Banyatpiyaphod, President of Ocean Property Co, the Ocean Portofino condominium in Pattaya said presently Pattaya?s tourism has been getting numerous support from both public and private organizations. Most of the tourists travel to Pattaya for leisure and entertainment, as well as, to meet the challenge activities which Pattaya has to offer. Sport activities have gained increasing interest amongst athletes every year, such as sport extreme activities, sailing, golf and horse back riding etc. Particularly the sailing sport in Pattaya, Ocean Marina Yacht Club is considered an important venue for sailing designation and yachting docks. It has received vast interest from both Thai and foreign tourists, including sailors from various countries, who took part in the 26th SEA GAMES, hosted by Thailand. The event contributed to the increasing popularity of Sailing as a sport. As a result, more tourists took interest in the sport and the marina facility for sailboats and yacht dock.

For 2008, Ocean Marina Yacht Club plans to promote more Sailing and Yachting sports, putting emphasis on carrying out more relating activities. The public relations activities will target two groups. The first group takes into account athletes who love the challenges of sailing sport. We have organized a monthly event ‘Ocean Marina Weekend Race’ which aims to enhance sailing skills and to encourage sailing as a sport. Furthermore, it provides a chance for sailors to prepare themselves for the ‘Top of the Gulf International Regatta – TOGR’, an annual international sailing event held in Pattaya, which attracts an ever increasing number of sailors each year. As well as the ‘Platu Coronation Thailand Championship? competing for Royal sponsored ?HM the King?s Platu Coronation Cup?. The event is viewed as Thailand’s greatest sail racing competition under the Platu category.

In addition, Ocean Marina Yacht Club has also organized a youth sailing competition ?Ocean Marina Optimist Championship? to provide an opportunity for both Thais and International young sailors to learn and develop their sailing skills, to their full potential, and to foster the love for sailing as a sport, as well as, to cultivate a new generation of young skippers in international competition in the future. Seven clubs and associations, nationwide, participated in the event bringing the total to 65 sail boats. The event is expected to be one of the most important sail racing competitions for young sailors in the year 2009.

Ms. Nusara further added that for tourists who seek the marina lifestyle, Ocean Marina Yacht club has organized a series of sailing activities, such as; ‘Sunset Sail’ package for those who do not have much time but want to gain sailing experience while enjoying the beauty of Pattaya’s sunset; ‘Life Afloat’ package for those who wish to spend a night on a yacht; ‘Exclusive Trip’ package – a private trip to the island and enjoy the ‘Full Moon Party on the Yacht'; and lastly the ‘Treasure hunt Trip’ package aimed at seminar groups of people who look for an adventurous outing style etc.

Mr. Kla Kitchakarn, Vice President Hospitality Business of Ocean Property Company revealed that in regards to sailing and yachting sport services, Ocean Marina Yacht Club has put together selected services such as; Sailing School by partnering with ‘Yacht Pro Sailing School? which emphasizes on developing sailing skills in adults and ?Vayu Sailing School? which will provides basic sailing techniques to young sailors and small children; Sailing and Yachting docks – capable of handling 500 yachts in the water and 200 in the dry docks; Boat Maintenance and Repair; Boat Building House; Boat supplies and parts shops etc.

With regards to ‘Top of The Gulf International Regatta’ the sailing competition event of the year, Mr. Kirati Assakul, Ocean Marina Yacht Club organizing committee added that for the past three years, the event has received overwhelming interest and acceptance from both Thais and International sailors. This is evident by the increasing number of entries each year. The event aims to promote it as one of the main events in Asia and establish Pattaya as an international sailing paradise for local and international sailors, both among youth and the general public. As well as stimulating Pattaya’s economy and tourism as a whole.

The event is schedule for May 1-5, 2008 at the Marina Yacht Club, Pattaya. It is expected to draw entries from front line local and international sailors from over 6 countries, including, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the Philippines etc. Totaling over 500 sailors from approximately 300+ fleets of yachts. The tournament is categorized into 10 classes, comprising of Keelboat, Cruising Keelboat, Sportboat, Platu Coronation Cup, Ocean Multi-hull, Beach Catamarans, Monohull Dinghies, Optimist Thailand Nationals, Super Mod and Windsurf. Three trophies will be on offer – Platu Coronation Cup, from HM the King, for Platu Class, Top of the Gulf International Regatta Trophy for individuals in all classes and the Optimist National Championship for young sailors aged between 8 and 15 years.

“It is expected that as a result from organizing sailing competitions through out the year, both at youth and adult levels, accompanied by complete marina services of Ocean Marina Yacht Club, it would help establish Thailand as the sailing destination and contribute to the boost in trend of sailing and yachting as a sport, amongst tourists and sailing athletes, both in Thailand and in foreign countries. Furthermore, it would also play an important part in the development of Thai expertise in sailing skills amongst young sailors, preparing them for international competitions in the future” Mr. Kirati concluded.
