Pattaya, the 25th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Speaking from the Royal Hospital Grounds in Chelsea, London, Dr. Kamphon Tonsatja (Nongnuch Garden Director) pleasantly announced that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) had confirmed the Nongnuch exhibit as the gold medal winner for its display of ‘Asian Culture & Plants.’

Pattaya’s Nongnuch Botanical Garden has been a member of the RHS for several years and had decided to compete in several gardening competitions for this year, one of which was the world renowned Chelsea Flower Show. Over 106 countries entered exhibits into the competition with a requirement that only 20% of the display can consist of unnatural resources. The display from Nongnuch Garden was one of traditional Thai artworks and statues combined with a vivid display of Thailand’s tropical plants and flowers.

Dr. Tonsatja explained that the idea of entering such an exhibit was to showcase Thai culture, heritage and customs through an expressive gardening display. He also explained that Nongnuch Botanical Gardens wished to be a leader in presenting a positive image of Thailand, helping stimulate tourism into the Kingdom and surrounding region.

The Royal Horticultural Society, setup over 200 years ago, is the official sponsor of the Chelsea Flower Show (Great Spring Show) which has been held at the Royal Hospital Grounds in Chelsea since 1888. Many gardening enthusiasts consider the spectacle the most famous botanical showcase and gardening exhibition in the world.
