Nong Prue HIV Foundation Forced Out By Villagers

Nong Prue Municipality rushes to find new residence for Krathom Phra Siri Foundation after local people had unanimous voted to make the HIV foundation move out of the village.

From the case that the local people of Lang Nern community, Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chon Buri province, has gathered together to vote whether they will allow Krathom Phra Siri Foundation which is a residence for HIV patients to stay in an area or not. The vote results were 131 against and 30 for letting them stay. The reason local people want this foundation to move out from an area is because they were afraid for the unsecure health issues that may occur with them.

 

PATTAYA – December 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; the journalists went to follow up to see the HIV patients living in Krathom Phra Siri Foundation after they had been evicted from their houses. The journalists found that there were over 30 HIV patients who lived in the foundation. Besides, there were foreign and Thai charitable people who had known about this matter who had come to donate money and give necessary utilities to the representative of this foundation in order to help cover the costs of treatment for the patients. The caretaker of Krathom Phra Siri Foundation revealed that the foundation operates all over the country. However, the foundation has pleaded with the locals to sympathize with these patients and the foundation until they can find a new appropriate place for them to live.

Mr. Mai Chainit (Mayor of Nong Prue municipal) revealed with the journalist that Nong Prue municipal and the related organization have together tried to find a solution for this problem and the foundation is expected to be moved within a year and the local people have no right to force them out.
