Nigerian Gang Defraud 1 Million Baht

Chiang Mai police arrested a Nigerian man that hacked emails of a millionairess who was a jewelry shop owner in Chiang Mai province, before using a bank account of a female friend to deceive customers of the jewelry shop to transfer money over 1 million THB to them.

CHIANG MAI – January 16,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 9.00 a.m., at a meeting room of the Office of Provincial Police, Section 5, Pol.Lt.Gen. Thanitsak Theerasawat (Commissioner, Section 5), Pol.Col. Suwat Kaewduangto (Deputy Commander), Pol.Col. Veerayuth Prasopchokchai (Superintendent of Chiang Mai police station) and Pol.Lt.Col. Kraisri Jullaphan (Inspector of Mueang Chiang Mai police station) together made a statement about arresting Miss Wannakon Sookming, aged 28, residing in Bangkok, and Mr. Sola Lotimi, aged 29, Nigerian nationality, with exhibits of 5 bankbooks of Bank of Ayudhya, 2 mobile phones and some documents. Then the officers sent them to Pol.Lt. Pongphana Panyakul (Inquiry official of Mueang Chiang Mai police station) to be prosecuted with an allegation of “together defrauding properties or receiving stolen property”. The police could arrest the 2 defendants in Bangkok.

 

This case due to on January 6, 2015 at 4.15 p.m., Miss Achara Phatthong, aged 53, residing at Tambon Mae Hia, Amphur Mueang, Chiang Mai province, went to see Pol.Col. Suwat Kaewduangto (Deputy Commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station, Acting Superintendent of Mueang Chiang Mai police station) and asked him to arrest a hacker that had hacked information from her email address : achara@achasiver.com which was an email of Achara Silver Co., Ltd. that is located at no. 214-216 Tha Phae road, Tambon Chang Moi, Amphur Mueang, Chiang Mai province, which was a jewelry shop of Miss Achara and caused her shop to lose over 1 million THB.

 

Miss Achara said that previously on January 3, 2015 she had notified with Pol.Lt. Pongphana Panyakul (Inquiry official of Mueang Chiang Mai police station) after she found that the information of her email address : : achara@achasiver.com which was an email of Achara Silver Co., Ltd. has been hacked which the police found that the hacker had hacked her email information at 8.00 a.m. on January 3, 2015 continually to January 4, 2015. A bank account that the customers were deceived to transfer money is an account number : 307-1-36098-7, account name : wannakon sookming ayuthbk of Bank of Ayudhya which caused her shop to lose over 1 million THB.

 

After receiving notification, detective police team of Mueang Chiang Mai police station which was led by Pol.Lt.Col. Kraisri Jullaphan and Pol.Lt.Col. Yutthakan Metha, inspectors of Mueang Chiang Mai police station, had detected that a bank account that the customers were using to transfer money into was a bank account of Miss Wannakon Sookming, residing in Bangkok, officers had followed up in order to arrest the 2 suspects which were Miss Wannakon Sookming and a Nigerian man in front of Bank of Ayudhya, in area of Nawanakorn road, Bangkok, both of them were detained for a full investigation. Initially, the 2 defendants had confessed to all allegations so police detained them in order to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.

 

The journalist reported that Miss Achara Phatthong (a victim) is a niece of Pol.Gen. Wannarat Khotcharat who is an ex-Deputy Director-General of the National Police Bureau who was in charge of the case of the lost blue diamond of Saudi Arabia which was the very crucial case in the past.
