Pattaya, 31st December 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Journalists reporting on the atmosphere on New Year’s Eve in Pattaya, say that it was even busier than last year. The staged events had attracted many Thais from other provinces, as well as foreign tourists. Inevitably, traffic congestion plagued the city throughout the day.

The event was honoured by Pattaya’s Mayor and the President of Chonburi Provincial Administration Organization, who chaired the opening ceremony, welcoming Thais and tourists to join in the event and welcome the new year of 2011 together. As a result the area in front of the stage at Bali Hai was filled by a sea of people. As the event was
extremely crowded the level of security was high, with many officials spread around the venue. But in the end the event turned out to be a big success.

In the period towards the countdown to the New Year, the event ‘Grand Pattaya Countdown 2011′ had arranged a series of performances by various famous artists every night since the 25th December. As a highlight of the event on the night of the 31st, the event was joined by the famous rock band ‘Bodyslam’ who in their repertoire included songs from their new album “Live In Kraam”. As the band was performing the number of foregners seemed to gradually increase, and the audience was eventually packed with them.

At midnight a spectacular and beautiful firework display featuring over 1000 explosions lit up the sky over Bali Hai Pier, welcoming 2011, the year of the rabbit, in true Pattaya style.
