New Pattaya “Planet Football” Facilities Open

What do you do when your kids and their friends destroy your lawn playing soccer every day? Well heeled English businessman Mark, solved this by buying a plot of land and building a day / night soccer field, which has become so popular that it is now includes a two story club, with bar and restaurant facilities.

Pattaya, 29th March 2010, [Pattaya Daily News]: The grass field was also suffering from over use, so Mark imported synthetic “Astro-Turf” from New Zealand at a cost of around 3-million baht. Yes, – you still water it down to improve the playing qualities, but it is everlasting, and Mark has invested around 18-million baht in this “Planet Football Centre.” This was all constructed by Pattaya’s “The Great Building Company,” which was founded here two years ago, and their construction methods are based on English building standards.

The “Planet Football” complex was started in August 2009, so this new “Soccer Playing Field” complete with an amenities building, has opened about 5-kilometres down Siam Country Club Road and it is proving very popular with local soccer teams. With the addition of 1st and 2nd floor bar facilities, it has quickly become a local training and competition centre with its excellent spectator facilities, and half of the profits from their sponsors are generously donated directly to local charities.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are practice nights, while Wednesdays are for men’s matches, but the big events are on Saturday (For the kids) and Sunday, with the tournaments and rostered soccer league matches often seeing crowds of 200 – 300 in attendance. The recent official opening weekend was no exception and over the two days, free buffet food was available for everyone, but most spectators were more interested in watching the matches, with both Thai and expat teams competing enthusiastically.

Full time management is required and Martin’s expat English friend is very well qualified, having previously been a former Trainee Manager for “Manchester United” in England. This “Planet Football” complex has been another great asset to soccer in Pattaya, thanks to the generous efforts of Martin and his friends, both in terms of finance and commitment.
