Pattaya, November 20, 2010, [Pattaya Daily News]: the collision between a white baht-bus and a pickup proved fatal to the latter driver as he subsequently rammed an electricity pylon and was flung through the windscreen and killed as his head impacted with the tarmac. The incident occurred on Sukhumvit Road at 5.30pm, Nov19, on front of the Ukraine Company and police were notified of the accident virtually immediately.

A rescue team, composed of police and Sawang Boriboon paramedics, was sent by the notified officer, Pol.Lt.Col  Hathailert Luepuen from Dongtan Sub-Police Station, and duly arrived to find a severely damaged 4-door, black Toyata Vigo pickup, which had crashed into an electricity pylon. Lying on the road nearby was the dead body of the driver, Mr. Chanin Kawinwanit [37] from Bangkok, covered in a massive amount of blood, with a broken neck and extensive injuries, including one to his head. The accident victim’s body was then dispatched to Banglamung Hospital to await collection by the deceased’s relatives.

An eye-witness, Mr. Somphot Duangmoon [35], told police that he had observed the black pickup travelling at speed in the direction of Sattahip, when an incautious white Pattya-Sattahip baht bus had pulled out from the roadside after picking up a passenger, causing the pickup driver to brake. In so doing, Mr. Chanin had lost control of his vehicle, which had ploughed into an electricity pylon. The subsequent impact had thrown Mr. Chanin through his windscreen head first and his impact with the road had been apparently fatal as he had not moved subsequently, Mr. Somphot opined.

Police are following up the case and the baht-bus driver will likely be charged with negligent driving leading to the death of a fellow road user.
