Nasty Smell Coming From Pattaya City Hall

9th December 2006 Dear Editor, Sorry, but I feel I have to comment on the other article that you attached to the letter I e-mailed you recently.

Do the good people of Pattaya realise that articles in the Nation are read across the world? Not only by people who are interested in Thailand but (more importantly), Holidaymakers!

I refer to an article about Corruption in Pattaya, which I agree with wholeheartedly.

I read¸ in one of our Local Papers, that a meeting has been held in City Hall to discuss the naming of the new Arch.

Surely they should be asking; why do we need a new Arch, when the amount spent (80 million Bht.), could be used elsewhere. The same could be said about the new Call Centre (90 million Bht.). Has anybody ever called it yet?

The next time you return to Pattaya from Bangkok, take a real look (within City limits) at Sukumvit Rd. It must be the ugliest gateway into any “Holiday Hotspot” in the world!

An Arch won’t fix it.

Suggestions???

Potholes. Dangerous Pavements. Miserable drainage. Water shortages. More Police (Foot soldiers, not Generals). Less Police (standing on street corners ignoring all the usual law breakers). Schools. Fighting poverty.

Our Mayor is leaving us, stating that he hasn’t the qualities to do the job but he will stay on to act as an advisor (?). Perhaps this comment was poorly translated, perhaps not.

Maybe Khun Prachar, the new Governor of Chonburi Province will make a difference. It remains to be seen.

I quote directly from the Nation…

“The pillaging of Pattaya’s budget cannot continue. The city has many social problems, too few police, poor schools and areas of great poverty – all of which could be helped by the sums mis-allocated from the city’s budget, which are instead being wasted on incompetent work and overpriced vanity projects, with nobody policing the process.”

I, for one, couldn’t say it better.
