Myanmar Sailors Saved By Navy Floating In The Sea

Two Myanmar sailors who had been working as fishermen on a boat decided to flee during the night because they were treated like slaves. They were found by the navy floating in the sea 4 nautical miles from the shore.

RAYONG – June 23, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 14.00 pm. VADM.Veerapan Sukgon-navy commander- was notified from the vessel traffic control and maritime security centre that they had found 2 fishermen floating in the sea therefore he immediately ordered HTMS Soo Pairin ship which LCDR.Aeksiam Yamsuan was the commander to search for the sailors.


HTMS Soo Pairin had been searching for 2 hours until they found 2 sailors holding a tank in the sea 4 nautical miles from shore. They were exhausted and where holding a bag which contained some clothes and money.

The two men were identified as a Mr Knai aged 20 and a Mr Chill aged 26 who were Myanmar sailors. The officers gave them some food and the doctor checked them over. Once back on shore the sailors were sent to the Queen Sirikit hospital.


Upon questioning the two men they revealed that they worked on a fishing boat but their employer forced them to work as if they were slaves therefore they decided to flee during the night while everyone was asleep and they used a tank to float in the sea.
