Myanmar Crew Found FloatingA gas conveyor ship has rescued 2 Myanmar men who were found floating in the sea after they had jumped overboard to flee the slave type working conditions on the ship they were working on.
SRIRACHA – Recently [PattayaDailyNews]; at 15.00 pm marine police and immigration police took 2 Myanmar labourers off a gas ship. Upon questioning Mr.Rungchai Kawchum-the captain of Bunik ship- he revealed that the ship had departed from Indonesia and headed for Thailand on the 7th of April and at 05.40 am this morning they found 2 men floating in the sea so they rescued them and notified the officers.
On April the 10th at 11.30 am the police officers and officers from the Myanmar embassy question the rescued Myanmar men.
Ms.Chanjira Thaibundit-senior social worker- revealed that the officials had questioned them and found out that they were victims of human trafficking and their employer forced them to work as a crew on a boat.
Upon questioning them they revealed that they had contacted a Myanmar agent to work on boats in Thailand. Once they were offered a contract they travelled to Thailand on March 22nd but they weren’t give any documents. Their employer threatened them beat them up and detained them, so when they got the chance they decided to jump overboard on the 7th of April but were fortunately picked up by a passing gas ship a couple of days later. The officers are now going to hunt down the employer so they can be prosecuted.
