Canada, the 15th of August 2010: The world number four continued his excellent form on the ATP circuit this season, recording a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 victory over the heavily backed Spaniard Rafael Nadal in Toronto.

Despite a relatively even first set, which saw both players hold their serve under pressure, Murray put together a stunning array of shots and attacked the world number one with a vicious forehand barrage winning the opener 6-3.

Securing a 3-1 lead in the second, on the back of a continued aggressive game that kept Nadal running, the game looked all but over. However Nadal regained his composure and started to dominate proceedings, breaking even at 4-4 before Murray’s positive play raised his game once more, taking the final set 6-4.

Murray will now face a resurgent Roger Federer, who reclaimed the world number two spot with his win over Serb Novak Djokovic in the other semi-final on Saturday.

In yet another hard fought victory for the Swiss national in Toronto, following his three set, nearly three-hour, victory over Tomas Berdych in the quarters, Federer overcame an assured performance by Djokovic, winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

All eye’s are now on Sunday’s final, where Murray, reigning champion in Toronto, will attempt to be the first back-to-back winner of the title since Andre Agassi in 1995, while Federer is looking to continue to fend off claims that his career is starting to fade following his recent early exits at the Grand Slams and demotion from the pinnacle of the sport.
