SATTAHIP – May 6, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 11 a.m., the arrests of four Burmese suspects for a stabbing murder was announced by Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha Thartsart, Commander, Chonburi province, together with Pol. Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station, Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Saengphring, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Niphon Pomsanarm, Deputy Superintendent, Pol. Lt. Col. Thapanat Chayarnphat, Inspector and the detective police team.

The suspects are brick-making workers at VK Supply Engineering Co., Ltd. They were identified as Mr. Ye or Phong Mian, age 38; Mr. Tan Zaw, age 19; Mr. Chominkhai, age 18; and Mr. Zukan or Yee, age 18.

After their arrests, the suspects confessed to using a 12-inch knife to fatally stab a former co-worker, Mr. Meng, also a Burmese native. On the night of April 23, 2013, the victim was stabbed three times in his neck and once in his chest.

The stabbing occurred at a tapioca field on the entrance side of the road to Khaocheejan temple, Moo 11 Tambon Bangsarey, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Katcha Thartsart, Commander, Chonburi province revealed that this was severe case where the suspects were very cruel. After the victim’s body was discovered, he had commanded Pol. Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station, to rush to follow up to arrest the suspects as soon as possible.

The detective police team learned that all of the suspects were workers of a brick making company, but after the murder they had escaped out of the area. So the officers watched out for them, expecting that they would return. When the suspects returned to the area as police assumed, they were arrested.

During their confession, the suspects described the events leading to the stabbing. The suspects said they were sitting to drink liquor in front of a room in the company building. Then Mr. Meng, an ex-worker of the company, showed up. He got drunk and used a broken bottle to stab at the chest of Mr. Tan Zaw, which injured him.

So the other workers got angry and decided to get revenge. They subdued the victim and used a plastic rope to tie his hands behind his back. Then they put him on a 3-wheeled motorbike and went to another location, and killed him. Mr. Ye Mian and Mr. Tan Zaw each stabbed the victim twice, until he died.

However, local residents said the spirit of Mr. Meng remained to haunt the area and was frightening them. Mr. Chin Sungkaew, kamnan of Tambon Bang Sarey, said that after the incident occurred, it greatly scared the local people, because the soul of the victim had sufficient strength to appear for the people to see him during the daytime, wearing a red bathing cloth and often sitting on the side of the road.

So a ghost chaser was summoned, to set up the rite for the offering to challenge the soul of the victim. The rite was so scary, because during the ceremony to appease the restless spirit, the food in the dishes of the offering disappeared, and the soft drink in the bottle mysteriously decreased halfway. So the people commented about the unusual strength of the murdered man’s soul.

So after sunset, the local people were so scared, they didn’t dare to drive their cars to pass this road in the dark.
