Pattaya, 17th March 2011. [Pattaya Daily News] At 00.10 a.m, Police Leitenant General, Sompol Nakkampan, Inspecting Officer of Najomtien Department was informed of an accident on Sukhumwit km. 162 Rd, Pattaya-Sattahip Direction, Bansuan Curve, Najomtien, Sattahip, Chonburi. A motorcycle has crashed into a bus resulting in one casualty and one injury. The police hurried to the scene along with the paramedics team from Sawang Rojanatham Foundation.

At the scene, the police found a black and white Honda motorbike (registered number plate Ngor-1256) being stuck under the bus ( Chonburi-Sattahip Route, bus number 1631 Jor-10, Registered number plate 10-3992, Chonburi). The 38-year-old motorbike driver, Mr. Wisit Kaewsai, (resides at No.19, Muangkaen, Rasisalai, Srisaket), died on the spot. The body was still attached to the motorbike. The passenger, Mr. Watchara Anupan, aged 32 (resides at No.24, Moo 8, Muangkaen, Rasisalai, Srisaket) was slightly grazed in the face.

The bus driver, Mr. Anon Poton, aged 36 (resides at No.28/63, Moo.7, Tanlom, Muang, Chonburi) told the police that he was driving from Chonburi City to Sattahip. Suddenly, one of the tires was broken. Consequently, he had to pull the bus off onto the shoulder and transferred passengers to other buses. The bus driver turned on the hazard lights as well as putting a can on the road, about 50 metres away from the bus to warn incoming cars to reduce their speed. There was no lights in that area. Afterwards, a motorcycle headed directly into the bus at an unstoppable speed.

The survived motorcycle passenger, Mr. Watchara, said that Mr. Wisit (the motorbike driver) and he had a few drinks at a restaurant in Najomtien prior to going home. As the bike was approaching the parked bus, the driver tried to swerve away from the can but lost control of the bike and hit the bus instead. The driver died immediately but the passenger survived. It was possible that the driver lost control because he was driving too fast on the slippery road as well as the fact that he could not see clearly due to lack of lights.
The police revealed that they have not determine whether the cause of the accident was due to drink driving or due to avoidance of street objects. However, they interrogated Mr. Anon and charged him with negligence, parking in a banned zone, and placing hindering object on the road without permission, causing road accident and casualty.
