PATTAYA – January 2, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 5:50 a.m., a report of four Russian tourists being robbed at gunpoint was received through the police radio by Pol. Lt. Col. Anake Srathongyou, suppression inspector of Muang Pattaya police station.

There were 4 criminals riding on 2 motorcycles who robbed the Russian tourists. The incident occurred on soi 5 in Khao Pratamnak in south Pattaya.

Police went to the scene with patrolling forces, and found the two male and two female Russian tourists. They were standing on the roadside still in shock. Two victims gave their names as Ms. Katerina Koruygina, 27 years old; and Mr. Roharts (he did not say his surname), 27 years old. The other two Russian victims did not disclose their names.

Police questioned a bystander who had witnessed the robbery from a distance. He was identified as Mr. Jakrit Seekasan, 28 years old, a security guard at a local company.

Mr. Jakrit told police he was nearby the Russian tourists while they were eating and drinking alcohol at the footpath. Then he saw the four robbers pull up to the Russians on two motorcycles. The first motorcycle was an orange Honda Wave with no license plate. He did not know the model of the other motorcycle.

The passenger on the Honda Wave pointed a gun at Mr. Roharts, while the passenger on the other motorcycle robbed the Russians. The robbers took a cell phone, a Canon camera, and a purse from Ms. Katerina containing 10,000 baht cash. The robbers then fled on Pratamnak Road toward the direction of Pattaya-Jonthian route 2.

Police brought the Russian victims to the Muang Pattaya police station to record their testimony. Police will also check the CCTVs in the surrounding areas to look for footage of the robbers and their motorbikes.

The latest robbery comes right on the heels of an earlier rape and robbery of two female Russian tourists on Christmas Day. The tourists were abducted at a Pratumnak Hill park by three Thai men in a pickup truck. Police yesterday arrested the three suspects in that case.
