Monks Caught Acting Improperly

Four monks have been reported to the police by local people for acting improperly by driving around visiting tourist attractions.

SATTAHIP – November 4, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 08.00 am Mr.Pawat Lerdmukda-chief district of Sattahip- was notified by local people that sa monk broke regulation by driving a car to tourist attractions. This action destroyed good image of Buddhism.

Later he ordered Mr.Chawat Thepthap-deputy chief to lead a team of officers to inspect. The officials found a car parked at the Viharasien sanctuary and found 3 adult monks and 2 child monks there. These monks had been travelling around tourist attraction. Plus they headed to Buddha hill to take their photo. The police then questioned them and found that Monk Chaowat Thongsod aged 26 was the driver, and the other monks consisted of Monk Mahaweerasak Siondong aged 37, Monk Boonchuay Masali aged 40, Child Monk Songpol Pothisarn aged 20 and Child Monk Thanathorn Rittem aged 15.

 

Upon questioning Monk Chaowat he claimed that he had traveled on the morning of the 2nd of November to go to his friends relatives funeral. After they had finished they drove around to take photos. He also claimed that they weren’t doing anything wrong.

Initially the officers took the monks to the monk abbot in order to perform a ritual to terminate their monkhood. Also the officials informed their temple to punish them all according to their mistakes.
