Pattaya, the 11th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Although at the time of writing, weather conditions in the Pattaya Bay appear to be “blue sky and sunshine,” a severe weather warning is still in place for the region following last night’s announcement by the Meteorological Department.

Fishermen and local transport vessels have been advised to take heed of the warning, which stated rough seas, strong winds and possible 2-meter waves could be expected in the Pattaya Bay over the next few days, urging operators to strictly adhere to maritime safety laws.

Ferries operating from Sriracha-Sri Chang and Pattaya/Jomtien-Koh Larn have been informed that overloading of boats and the use of life jackets will be strictly monitored by the Sattahip Naval guard and Marine 6 unit of Sriracha during the weather warning. Breaches will be enforced.

In addition all maritime operators have been ordered to provide a sufficient amount of lifejackets to passengers and crew onboard their vessels, whilst being urged to maintain vigilant checks on conditions before departing from each port. Island tours are advised to check conditions before departure in the morning and monitor conditions carefully all day so as to avoid any potential accidents as a result of being caught in poor conditions.

Operators, renowned for not enforcing their passengers to wear safety vests, have been informed that severe punishments apply for breaches of these laws and that any operators/vessels found in breach of the maritime safety laws will be vehemently punished whilst there is a weather warning in place over the region.
