Recently – [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr.Don Poramatwinai-assistant minister of foreign affair- was accompanied with Mr.Songsak Saichua-chief of department of America and South Pacific affair- and Ms.Kanchana Pattarachok-chief of foreign affair- made the statement together.

Mr.Don said that the ministry had dealt with human trafficking for the last 6 months and they were very pleased with the results and how the improvements have developed. It’s expected that they would gain momentum and huge success making this issue a national Agenda

They enforced the law to protect labour in fishing boats which was enforced on the 30th of December in order to standardize the level of labour. All vessels have to adhere to the laws and maintain a strict conduct regarding the law about anti-human trafficking. Confiscated property will be returned to the victims.

In addition, officials aimed to separate victims both Thai and foreign in order that the sectors collaborate together. Also, they aimed to have an interpreter to keep in touch with the victims. The National legislative assembly had approved the law about protection of fishing labour and they set up levels of punishment as high as a fine for 30 million baht.

Year on year, officials had prosecuted 130 cases and punished 104 men. Also 1.6 million alien labourers would be proved of nationality and this will be finished on 31st January in order to reduce the risk of human trafficking. Officials aim to register labourers as soon as possible for legal reasons.

While TIP reported (Trafficking in Persons Report ) have to dispatch irregularities found in January, officials expected that it will be accepted from the department about anti-human trafficking in the USA because Thai officials have always discussed these issues with USA departments and that they were satisfied about Thai affairs. Thai officials reported that the officials had already prosecuted the officers who were involved with the case of human trafficking in Pattani and Pangnga provinces.

“Human trafficking is a problem that officials have to spend more time on to resolve the ongoing problem in the country. They intend to intensify their efforts and maintain all the progress they are making, Thailand is doing better than the group of countries at the same level” said Mr.Don.

The Prime Minister intended to prosecute the officers who involved with human trafficking. The government put more budget for office of national anti-corruption commission for 300 million baht in order to add more officers to help deal directly and with inspecting suspected wrongdoers. All parties involved with the issue of human trafficking will be arrested and dealt with by the Law Courts. The Centre of anti-human trafficking is under the control of the ministry of justice.
