Mercure Hotel

In the shadow of Thailand’s current economic state and with the recent property scare, many businesses in Thailand have suffered due to the lack of tourism during the low season. In the midst of all these happenings, there is one hotel in particular which is flourishing. That is the Mercure Hotel.

While other establishments are doing everything possible to attract business, the Mercure is enjoying a healthy occupancy rate of 86%. Set amidst a lush tropical garden setting located off Soi 15, only a short tuk tuk ride from Second Road, which is a free service provided by the hotel.

Upon arrival to the hotel, my first impressions were that it’s a very stunning and modern establishment, which is obviously meticulously maintained.  On entering the lobby I noticed something very unusual in terms of the architecture of the building, something uniquely Thai. There is a nice harmonic blend between contemporary Thai style and modern architecture. The open concept of the lobby is a nice change of pace from your typical hotel. There are no doors on the front entrance, which allows for a constant refreshing breeze to blow through. The staff greets you with a warm smile, and is eager to accommodate any whim or request you may have.

Facilities and Recreation
The hotel provides an outdoor swimming pool, which makes for an ideal spot for you and your loved ones to relax. If relaxation is what you are craving then you must spend some time at the spa. A fitness center and gym are also offered for the health enthusiast.
Additionally, the hotel also provides Internet service at a relatively small charge. Other services offered to its guests consist of aqua gym, guided beach walk, batong, badminton, takraw, cooking, cocktail making and fruit carving.

Dining Experience
The Mercure offers many different dining experiences. The Bistro caters to more of a Western style providing sumptuous meals with most of the dishes you would find back home.
The Cappuccino Terrace offers an outdoor pizza and pasta dining experience for lovers of Italian cuisine. The M Café offers a wide range of authentic Thai and Chinese cuisine to tickle your taste buds. Also featured is a nightly jazz club called Ray’s Place where you can relax to the sounds of jazz and also have a tasty meal. Happy hour runs from 6 to 8 with 50% discount on drinks excluding wine and cocktails.

Accommodation
The accommodation offers a variety of rooms consisting of a Superior suit, a Deluxe suite, Family suite and finally the Grande suite. The Superior suit is a standard room, which you would expect from any good hotel. The beds are comfortable, clean and new. The beauty of this room is it offers a lovely city view overlooking the bay of Pattaya. The Deluxe is the next step up. It offers a spacious room tastefully decorated in contemporary Thai style and also offers tea and coffee making facilities. The Family room offers the choice of three themed rooms to choose from, The Walt Disney, Wonder Brothers and Bat Man. The room offers a separate children’s sleeping quarters separate from the parents sleeping area, separated by a partition. The children’s quarters also offers a Sony Play Station as well as a DVD player free of charge. The Grande suite offers two separate bedrooms each with its own en-suite. Continuing with the open concept of the hotel, the showers are screened by a bamboo partition as well as a Jacuzzi which has a built in massage feature.
