Pattaya, the 18th of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 1:30am on Sunday, Colonel Somnuk Janket (Banglamung Police Superintendent) conducted over 100 officers, volunteers and security personnel in a joint investigation into illegal street racing along the Krathing Lai – Rayong bypass road near the Bira Car Racing Circuit in Pong.

Investigations were conducted after frequent reports surfaced of disturbances and various other incidents occurring in the area due to a regular gathering of illegal street racers. Reportedly, the largely youth gathering, would come from Pattaya, Sattahip, Rayong and Chachoengsao to participate in the organised races.

At the location, Col. Janket organised a procession of over 20 squad vehicles and an 18-wheeler vehicle transport truck to the blockade the area in an attempt to detain all of the gathered racers. In total, the taskforce confiscated 15 modified vehicles, including a Siam Ruamjai Pu-in Foundation rescue vehicle from Rayong, while 60 suspects were also arrested.

According to police checks, all the arrested were between the ages of 15-30 and consisted of largely local university and college students. The Siam Ruamjai Pu-in Foundation rescue pickup is believed to be the leader of the races, however; the owner has since denied having any participation in the racing, stating that he was an observer.

Under interrogation at the Banglamung Police Station, most of the youths admitted their part in the illegal street racing, while some persisted to maintain that they were merely observers in proceedings. All vehicle owners have now been charged with racing a vehicle on an official road without permission (illegal street racing), whilst the 15 vehicles have been impounded for further investigations.
